The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society has a multitude of volunteer opportunities to fit the lifestyles, skills and desires of compassionate people like you. One (or more!) of these opportunities will surely satisfy your need to make a difference in our community, and all directly benefit the animals in our care.
You will learn new skills, make new friends (two- and four-legged!) and perhaps even update your resume to include your volunteer experience. Our minimum age to volunteer is 16, but we encourage families with children 12 years of age and older to volunteer together. We also have opportunities for groups, and can customize volunteer projects especially for your time schedule and preferences. Check out the Opportunities page on our Volunteer Menu to see current volunteer positions needed and ongoing opportunities at the shelter. To get started . . . submit your volunteer application online or at the shelter, and choose the New Volunteer Orientation date that best suits your schedule by requesting that date in the Comments section of the application. You will receive a confirmation if the orientation date you’ve chosen is still open. If not, we will email you a list of future orientations with available spaces. Please do not attend an orientation without prior confirmation! At our 2-hour New Volunteer Orientation, you will learn all about volunteering at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society and will receive hands-on training with our animals. After completing your orientation, you are welcome to spend time with our animals any time the shelter is open. Volunteer Opportunities include dog walking, cat cuddling and socialization, bunny cuddling and socialization, fostering, grooming, animal husbandry, assisting staff in various departments, and taking animals to special offsite adoption events throughout the community. Departmental positions require a regular schedule commitment. Dog walkers, cat cuddlers and bunny buddies may spend time with our animals any time, seven days a week, during regular shelter hours. Training is available for all opportunities. Fill out your application today . . . we can’t wait to meet you and introduce you to our wonderful animals! |
